While spending Christmas vacation in Hawaii, Stevie finds that Christmas is more than "sleigh rides and chestnuts warming on an open fire." Christmas does come from the inside out! School's out! It's Christmas vacation!! The excitement of the winter's first snowfall is about to hit Manatoka, Minnesota. Stevie Johnson is anticipating the annual holiday sled race down Big Rock Mountain; and his sister Missy the annual church Chrismas program. But all that is about to change. "You aren't going to believe this, but I've got great news! My boss is sending us to Hawaii for the Holidays!" exults Stevie's father.

Well, everyone seems to go along with this sudden adjustment, with the exception of Stevie. His dreams of winning the big sled race have now been shattered . . . not to mention ice skating or snowball fights with his neighborhood friends. Hawaii is not exactly his idea of "chestnuts roasting on an open fire."

But hold on, now! Can Stevie find Christmas joy in the warm climate of Hawaii? Follow the Johnson family, Stanley, Jane, Missy and Steve to Oahu, Hawaii as they meet brand new friends, discover ancient Hawaiian customs, but most important of all, find the true meaning of Christmas.
